Lets start a new adventure.

This is only the second time I have had to face him crying as I left him. The first made sense, he was overtired and hadn't napped. This one was a different cry, this was a protest because he knew I was going to walk out the door and not be there. This one hurt me. I do however have the benefit of seeing it from both sides, there is a skill to dropping your child off at nursery the first few times, you have to remain calm, confident, make it quick.  If you linger too long, look nervous or get upset they pick up on it. Quick drop offs help everyone, parents don't linger and get upset as long, babies are easier to settle and nursery workers get more time bonding.  Seeing the sadness hurts though, the cry is different, it hits heart strings you never knew you owned, and you hold back the tears till you're out of view. I cried all the way into town and then some more whilst I ate fried egg on toast.  Deep down I know he's fine, I know he will settle and get distracted a...

Nearly nine months.... nearly time to go back

Hey guys its Jess here,  Today I just want to share a little about where we are now!  We are nearly nine months old! This is very exciting, but very daunting as it also means it's nearly time to go back to work, I am excited as I am stepping into a new role, but also a little anxious, I've been out of the game for a little while, wrapped up in the cosy bubble of being a Mama, and now i need to tackle the challenge of learning to be a Mama AND a teacher.  This week we have been doing settles at nursery, he has done so well, of course there were tears, its to be expected, its very different settling in to nursery, even if they have been to lots of play groups, spent time with family without you present or been around lots of new people. It can be a little overwhelming to be in a new place with new faces, smells and sounds and then to realise your Mama or Da isn't there? I would cry too!  Saying that though, early years educators work really hard to help new littl...

Post birth fitness

Hey guys Jess here!  Today I want to share with you a quick post about post-birth fitness!  First of all a little about where I am, I am currently 6 weeks post birth, we did a forceps delivery with about 6 days in hospital with some complications for me and jaundice for the boy, since getting home my focus has been getting in sleep, eating plenty, getting outside at least once a day and keeping moving. Since then I have managed to get back to running very short distances, been on longer walks and taken on my first post birth event! (more about that in a  future blog)  Here are a few tips for you to take on board for fitness post birth Listen to the advice of your midwife, GP or health visitor, they will be able to give you the best advice based on where you are with your health.  Everybody is at a different level with their recovery and fitness, comparing yourself to other people who are further along with their postpartum recovery or even had a different...

The birth 'Experience'

Hey guys Jess here,  Currently sat 12 post birth at home in the midst of the post birth life of having a new born, that's a story for another day though, today I want to chat bout the birth 'experience' a better term than birth 'Trauma', this was a phrase I picked up from 'How to raise a viking' by Helen Russell that I have started reading.  My birthing story started on the 26th March, about 2 am my water broke, or so I thought, they didn't really gush or trickle but blobbed, which wasn't what I expected, no contractions or anything like that just the waters breaking, so contacted the MAU and popped in to be check, and was advised to go home, check temp every 4 hours and if we got any changes, contractions or concerns come back, and if we didn't we would be called in.  The next 24 hours felt like the longest wait of my life! I don't do well with waiting at the best of times, I got occasional twinges but nothing huge, spent the day trying to ...
