The start of the festive challenge and a week of no running......

Hiya guys Jess here,

This week didn't go to plan, it was suppose to be a week of smashing out training, starting the festive challenge and getting to the Christmas work event, instead it was a week of a back injury and then a cold, flu lurgy type thing......

So the start of the week went well, till i realised part way though Monday that I have pulled a muscle somewhere in my back, either the top or the bottom, all i know is it hurt the whole left side of my back and triggered my sciatic nerve... that derailed the first half of the week, its mostly gone now with just the occasional twinge but i spent the last 11 years of my life battling on going back pains, aches and niggles, its just part of my life.

come the second half of the week and everyone at work is coming down with all i can describe as is the flu, that really snotty, chesty, lurgy that make you feel like utter crap! With most the team being hit by it and not feeling well we postponed the Christmas party in place of a party in the new year instead.

Friday night i started to feel the familiar tickle of the throat and the start of a slight cough, I know full well
what is coming for me, so I started on the meds i have at home and plan to grab more on the Saturday.

Wake up Saturday morning and my whoop score says it all, RHR and respiratory rate spiked and my HRV plummeted, with a good 8 hours sleep (though broken) and no stress a (frequent trigger) or alcohol (an occasional trigger....seriously one glass sets my score out of whack now I hardly drink) I knew full well this was illness! Rough first day its time to hit it with everything to kill it before it heads to sinusitis, I can cope with a cold, or a flu, but Sinusitis completely destroys me!

Generally i feel pretty rough but i still have my voice and its more just the annoyance of the cough and feeling a rubbish, though the throat still hurts, so the whole of Saturday (and now Sunday) I have been dosing up on a bit of everything, lemsip, Ibuprofen, cough mix, throat sweets, honey and lemon tea, vics for the chest, deep heat for the back (the coughing isn't helping he aching) and lots of rest. So instead of training this weekend and going on the planned bike ride I have instead cancelled all workouts in place of rest, recovery and easy movement, i mean i can't just stop, otherwise nothing will get done, but i can be more sensible.

This week was suppose to be the start of the bikes and laces festive challenge, and annual festive challenge where we set a task to complete, this year is to complete a run distance, ride distance and one think that challenges or scares you, so with this week being no running, or riding it means next week i have to up the run or drop the distances.... We will see what happens.

So with a cancel of plans, and swapping out training for easy stuff Chris and I ended up having a spontaneous date day, we booked in for a meal at cosmos where we ate way to much food, and they some time at the board game cafe playing new games, and even had a walk around the market, generally a nice easy day out.

So that was that, not the week i planned but a good time in the end, as i write this i am sipping lemsip and putting my feet up while mentally planning for my chill afternoon, hot bath, nice drink, and possibly a murder or two.

Any how I am going to go rest up before a short walk out and generally just take it easy.

Thanks for reading, stay safe,

scribble back

love from Jessie

Where did my baby go?

(contains amazon associates link)  Hey guys, it's been a while!  My last post was a little before my return to work, were are now half way through  2025!  So where are we? Well little man isn't so little, at 16 months he is in full blown toddler hood, we walk, run, climb, scream, babble, and have super sass (gets that from me), we get frustrated at not being able to do things but want to be into doing everything! He has been at nursery for about 7 months now and has fully settled in found his confidence and loves every day! We have had our fair share of illnesses, accidents and art work and we are currently preparing for the transition to the next room.  As for me, I've settled into being a Mama and a Teacher, I've reflected on my life and started making adjustments, I have also had my fair share of illnesses (though not as many as the boy) and I'm surviving, not quite thriving, but getting closer to the threshold.  What have we been up to? Lately? trying t...

Merry Christmas and here's to 2024

As 2023 comes to an end and the Festivities have been in full swing, I want to take a moment to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy new year.  This year has been filled with mini adventures, the challenges of pregnancy, the journey of navigating a new job role and fitting in general health and well being as well. As for 2024 well that is a whole new adventure!  In my older years i have never really been one for new years resolutions but i do like the idea of making commitments and agreements with myself, and each year they are usually just things that i want to continue working on to continue to support and improve myself, so rather than giving up chocolate or hitting the gym every day I usually focus on things like, lets make sure i focus on my sleep routine, take on more adventures and make sure i move a little daily.  These are normally my big three, there are may things I want to work on and goals come and go, things change and plans get adjusted, fo...

Lets start a new adventure.

This is only the second time I have had to face him crying as I left him. The first made sense, he was overtired and hadn't napped. This one was a different cry, this was a protest because he knew I was going to walk out the door and not be there. This one hurt me. I do however have the benefit of seeing it from both sides, there is a skill to dropping your child off at nursery the first few times, you have to remain calm, confident, make it quick.  If you linger too long, look nervous or get upset they pick up on it. Quick drop offs help everyone, parents don't linger and get upset as long, babies are easier to settle and nursery workers get more time bonding.  Seeing the sadness hurts though, the cry is different, it hits heart strings you never knew you owned, and you hold back the tears till you're out of view. I cried all the way into town and then some more whilst I ate fried egg on toast.  Deep down I know he's fine, I know he will settle and get distracted a...
